Biography

Grigory Sidorenko was born in 1912 in the village of Ryazan (now the Belorechensky district of the Krasnodar Territory ). After graduating from the four classes of the school, he lived and worked in the village of Novokubanskaya . In July 1941, Sidorenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He was wounded twice in battles [1] .

By September 1943, the guard sergeant Grigory Sidorenko commanded the machine gun company of the 1st Infantry Battalion of the 310th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 110th Guards Rifle Division of the 37th Army of the Steppe Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 29, 1943, Sidorenko’s branch crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Kutsevolovka, Onufrievsky District, Kirovograd Region of the Ukrainian SSR, and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. At the critical moment of the battle on October 7, 1943, Sidorenko replaced the out-of-command platoon commander and led the reflection of eleven German counterattacks, he was wounded, but continued to fight [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944 for “exemplary performance of command missions during crossing the Dnieper River, development of military success on the right bank of the river and courage and heroism shown” of the Guard, Sergeant Grigory Sidorenko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the presentation Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal number 9120 [1] .

He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Japanese war . In 1945, Sidorenko was demobilized. He lived and worked in Novokubansk. He died on December 23, 1966 [1] .

He was also awarded two orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
