Biography
Vasily Sidorenko was born on January 14, 1911 in the village of Kastornoye (now a village in the Kursk region ). He graduated from high school and four courses of the Dnepropetrovsk Mining Institute. He worked first at the mine, then at the factory in Voronezh . In May 1942, Sidorenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since October 1943 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By July 1944, junior lieutenant Vasily Sidorenko commanded a platoon of 45 mm guns of the 1st battalion of the 599th rifle regiment of the 145th rifle division of the 1st rifle corps of the 43rd army of the 1st Baltic front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR . July 10, 1944, when the battalion Sidorenko was surrounded near the city of Pastavy , the platoon under his command successfully repelled German counterattacks, destroying more than 100 enemy soldiers and officers, which allowed them to break out of the encirclement [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the "exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown", junior lieutenant Vasily Sidorenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 7411 [1] .
In December 1944, Sidorenko was transferred to the reserve with the rank of senior lieutenant. He lived and worked in Kursk . He died on January 18, 1978 [1] .
Honorary Citizen Pastav. He was also awarded the Orders of the Red Banner and the Red Star , along with a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Sidorenko the street in Pastavy is named [1] .
