Biography

Born in a family of a farmer engaged in community activities in a local community. In 1912 he received a higher historical and pedagogical education in Zurich, was a member of the Liechtenstein student fraternity "Rhenia". In 1914, he began his career as a teacher at the Vaduce State School.

In 1919, Prince Johann II was appointed Member of Parliament. In 1920, the prince awarded him the honorary title of professor, along with Wilhelm Beck, he addressed the issues of constitutional reform and the draft new Constitution (1921). In March 1922 he was elected from the People's Party to the government, and in June of that year he became Prime Minister of Liechtenstein. The cabinet headed by him entered into a customs union (1923), and then a currency agreement with Switzerland (1924) and was involved in liquidating the consequences of a dam breaking on the Rhine in September 1927. After a scandal with savings banks, the People's Party was defeated in parliamentary elections in 1928 and the politician was forced to return to teaching. He studied it until 1945.

Shedler worked for many years as a Neue Zürcher Zeitung correspondent in Liechtenstein, and from 1943 to 1944. together with Otto Shedler, editor of the newspaper Liechtenstein Fatherland (Liechtensteiner Vaterland). In March 1943 he took part in a meeting of the banned German national movement of Liechtenstein in Friedrichshafen. This circumstance, as well as the fact that he published articles paid by German clients during the Second World War, became the basis for his conviction in 1946 in the form of six months in prison for prohibited informational activities.
