At Luton, Steve became a leader in the center of defense and was the captain of the club in the 1987/88 season, in which the Hatter won the first ever League Cup .

During 1989-1992 he played for Oxford United , who played in the second division. He completed his professional gaming career at the Brighton & Hove club, which he had previously performed on. After the end of the mundial, the new coach of the British was appointed Bobby Robson, who never again attracted Steve to the games of the national team.
