Biography

He was born on October 15, 1917 in the village of Bobylitsa, now in the Pyschug district of the Kostroma region . He graduated from 7 classes. He worked at a local leshoz.

In July 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army and from the same month participated in battles with German-enemy invaders. Private Shister especially distinguished himself in the summer of 1944 during the liberation of Belarus. A few days before the start of the offensive, strong reconnaissance detachments began to operate on the entire front. In a number of places they wedged into the enemy defenses and entrenched, creating a false impression on the enemy about the direction of the main attack. Units of the 940th Infantry Regiment, moving forward along the Vitebsk-Smolensk railway, attracted the attention of the enemy, drawing considerable enemy forces.

Early in the morning of June 21, 1944, after a massive fire attack, the Germans attacked the trenches of the regiment's front line in the area of the village of Shapury. It so happened that the submachine gunner Shisterov defended one on a plot of about 100 meters. With bursts of machine guns and grenades, he repelled several enemy counterattacks, setting an example of stamina and courage. When the ammunition ran out, a soldier with an empty machine gun rushed at the enemy. In hand-to-hand combat, he destroyed 3 opponents until he was finally captured.

Fending off with all his last strength, Shisterov saw a soldier Meshcheryakov rushing to his aid. Seeing the comrade's indecision, he shouted: “Throw grenades. Beat them, you bastards, do not spare me. " Three grenades exploded near Shisterov and opponents clinging to him. Two Germans were killed, and Shisterov himself was seriously wounded. The rest of the opponents, stunned by the breaks, fled. Bleeding, the fighter picked up an abandoned enemy machine gun and tried to chase the Nazis, but was killed by a machine gun.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the fight against German-enemy invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, Red Army soldier Peter Shisterov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

He was buried at the battlefield in the village of Shapury.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin . In his homeland, in the village of Pyshchug, a street was named after him, a memorial plaque was erected on the house in which he was born and lived.
