Shout (The Isley Brothers song)

“ Shout ” ( Rus. Cry ) is a popular and influential song written and first recorded by members of The Isley Brothers . The song was released in September 1959 on a double-sided single, which reached only 47th position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart [1] , but nevertheless became the group's first gold single due to its continued popularity. Due to the fact that the composition was too long to be placed on one side of the single, it is divided into two parts (the first part ends with the words of the vocalist “Wait a minute”). The song is an unusual combination of features of rock and roll and elements of the gospel , while the lyrics are emphasized secular [1] .

In 1964, he recorded another cover version of the song, but it no longer became a noticeable hit.
  • A version of the American pop group , recorded in 1962, reached number six on the American charts.
  • The version of the Scottish singer Lulu reached the seventh position in the UK charts in 1964 (the performer is listed as Lulu & The Luvvers) [4] , her version recorded in 1986 reached the sixth position [4] . The popularity of this performance in the UK was so high that the song is perceived in the country more as a Lulu song, rather than The Isley Brothers [1] .

This song performed by The Beatles is notable for the fact that the vocal parts are performed by all four members of the group [6] (and they are all equally main vocalists). In 1996, a studio recording of the song (without the noise of the audience) was published as part of the compilation album Anthology 1 ; for unknown reasons, the version released on this album was reduced by 30 seconds [6] , but the full version is in use on bootlegs .
  • The song sounds in the concert album Bullet in a Bible (2005) of the American band Green Day , immediately after the song “King for a Day”, although it is not indicated by a separate number on the track list [7] .
