Biography
Nikolai Sivtsov was born on June 29, 1917 in the village of Kota [1] (now - Kastorensky district of the Kursk region ). Since 1929, he lived in Serpukhov , graduated there from seven classes of a school and a school for factory apprenticeship , worked at a spinning and weaving mill. In parallel with work, he was engaged in a flying club. In 1939, Sivtsov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940, he graduated from the Kachin Military Aviation Pilot School . Since September 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In the battles he was wounded [2] .
By August 1943, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Sivtsov was deputy squadron commander of the 867th fighter regiment of the 207th fighter air division of the 3rd mixed air corps of the 17th Air Army of the Southwestern Front . By that time, he had completed 78 sorties, took part in 34 air battles, shooting down 22 enemy aircraft [3] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 8, 1943 for "courage and heroism shown in air battles," senior lieutenant Nikolai Sivtsov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He did not manage to receive the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal , since on September 23, 1943 he went missing during the next combat mission [2] .
In total, he made about 100 sorties at the front, spent about 40 air battles, personally shot down 18 in a group of enemy aircraft [4]
He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner and the Order of the Red Star [2] .
Memory
- A street in Serpukhov was named in honor of Sivtsov [2] .
