Biography
He was born on September 11, 1918 in the village of Chernava, now Miloslavsky District, Ryazan Region . Member of the CPSU since 1943. He graduated from seven classes of junior high school and flying club. He worked at the Moscow plant "Hammer and Sickle", an aircraft technician in the flying club.
In 1940, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Engels Military Aviation Pilot School . In the battles of World War II from May 1943. He fought on the Voronezh , 1st , 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the battles for the liberation of Kharkov , Sumy , Kiev , Lviv . He fought in the sky of Budapest , Bucharest , Belgrade .
During fierce battles on the Kursk Bulge of Guard, Second Lieutenant S. S. Fatkin received orders to attack enemy tanks north of Butovo Station. Taking special anti-tank bombs, he flew out to perform a combat mission. Seven tanks were disabled.
In the fall of 1943, the guard, Lieutenant S. S. Fatkin, as part of a group of eighteen aircraft, made a successful flight to bomb the enemy airfield in the Uman area. Our pilots destroyed 27 enemy aircraft.
In 1944, the senior lieutenant S. S. Fatkin was given the task of destroying the railway bridge across the Danube south of the city of Oslek. Having overcome the dense obstructive fire of anti-aircraft batteries, an experienced pilot broke through to the target and a well-aimed bombing destroyed the bridge.
By April 1945, the commanding officer of the 165th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment of the Guard, Senior Lieutenant S. S. Fatkin, made 160 sorties in reconnaissance, bombing and assault on enemy personnel and equipment, causing him great damage.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 18, 1945, for the exemplary execution of combat missions of the command to destroy enemy manpower and equipment and the courage and heroism of the guard shown to this, Lieutenant Fatkin Sergey Stepanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal " .
