Biography

He was born on July 2, 1964 in the village of Kumas, Monofatsi region (now composed of Dima Gortin ), Nom Heraklion [1] in the family of Ioannis and Zumbuli Koerakis [2] .

Received primary and secondary education in Heraklion on Crete. He graduated from the Theological Institute of the University of Athens . Then he completed postgraduate studies in liturgy at the theological faculty of Thessaloniki University [1] , defending his thesis “Τα λειτουργικά στοιχεία στα έργα του Μεγάλου Βασιλείου” [2] .

For a scholarship from the Pro Oriente Foundation, he studied Roman Catholic theology at the theological faculty of the University of Karl and Franz in Graz , Austria [1] [2] .

On February 17, 1991, at the Ankaraf monastery, the abbot of the monastery, Gennady (Stavrulakis), was tonsured a monk with the name Cyril . On February 23 of the same year, the Archbishop of Cretan Timothy (Paputsakis) was ordained to the rank of Hierodeacon [1] .

From 1991 to 1995 he served as archdeacon under the Metropolitan of Austria, Michael (Staikos) [1] .

On August 16, 1995, he was ordained a hieromonk and on the same day was elevated to the rank of archimandrite . From this time until 2000 he served as a preacher of the Cretan archbishopric [1] .

From 1996 to 2000, he also served as director of the broadcasting service of the archbishopric [1] .

In 2000, it was determined by the protosynkel of the Cretan archbishopric [1] .

On April 20, 2004, by the decision of the Holy Synod of Constantinople, the Patriarchate was elected Metropolitan of Rhodes [1] [2] .

On April 25 of the same year, in the stauropegic Valuklinsky Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring, he was ordained bishop of Rhodes and was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan . The consecration was performed by: Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, Metropolitan John of Nicaea (Rinne) , Metropolitan Herman of Theodoropolis (Athanasiadis) , Metropolitan of Austria Michael (Staikos) , Metropolitan of Principonis Jacob (Sofroniadis) , Metropolitan of Rephimirim of Srimonimo of Pimonimono of Animimo Arkalohorii Andrei (Nanakis) [3] . On June 5 of the same year, he was followed up.

Heading the Rhodes Metropolitanate, he dealt with issues of social security and assistance to those in need. He also began to strengthen the monasteries in Rhodes and the revival of those of them in which for a long time there was no brotherhood [2] .
