History
Under the Han Empire, Hoze County (濩 泽 县) was established in these places. Under the Tang Empire in 742, it was renamed Yancheng. In 905, the name Hojze was returned to him, but under the Late Tang Empire, in 923 he again received the name Yangcheng. Under the Jin Empire, the county was raised in rank to the region, but under the Yuan Empire in 1260, the region was again demoted to county.
Changzhi Special District (长治 专区) was created in 1949, and the county became part of it. In 1958, Changzhi Special District was renamed the Jindongnan Special Region (晋东南 专区), while Qinshui County was added to Yangcheng County. In 1959, the counties were divided again.
In 1970, the Jindongnan Special Region was renamed the Jindongnan District (晋东南 地区).
In 1985, by the decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Changzhi city, Jincheng city district and Jindongnan district were disbanded, and Changzhi and Jincheng city districts were formed on their territory; the county became part of the Jincheng city district.
