First mentioned in 1272. After the death of his father and until 1289, he was under the care of his uncle, Count Otton II von Oldenburg-Delmenhorst . Starting from 1301, documents and seals are mentioned together with his brother Christian, but there is no information about him in the Rustedes Chronicle .
According to the documents of the Rastedesky monastery , Johann II brought the population of his county to poverty, openly lived with his mistress and behaved like a peasant.
