Biography

The princess’s birthplace is the Grünholz Palace.

Adelheida was born on October 19, 1889 in the estate of Grünholz in Schleswig-Holstein . She was the fourth child and fourth daughter in the family of the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburgskogo Friedrich Ferdinand and his wife Carolina Matilda Matilda Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg . The girl had older sisters Victoria Adelaide , Alexander Victoria and Elena . Subsequently, the younger sister Carolina Matilda and brother Wilhelm Friedrich were born.

The family lived in the estate of Gruenholtz and the Glucksburg castle.

During the First World War, Frederick managed the estates of his father, since Frederick II, being a military man, was under the General Staff. In 1920, after his death, Frederick inherited the title and possession. The family was in charge of the Barut castle and the Klichdorf castle in Lower Silesia.

During the Second World War Frederick was arrested by the Gestapo, and the castle of Klichdorf was expropriated by the Nazis. Adelheide was set aside 24 hours to pack and leave. [1] After the dismissal of her husband in March 1945, the family moved to Sweden, where she lived for some time in the Haga Palace, and from there emigrated to Namibia. [2]

The farm on which they settled in 1948 was owned by them from 1937. [3] The land plot was 49,582 hectares in size and was used primarily for the needs of sheep breeding. [four]

In Namibia, Frederick died after a major operation. Adelheida survived her husband for thirteen years and passed away on June 11, 1964 in Salzburg .
