Biography

Vasily Sergienko was born in 1920 in the village of Osinovka (now the Mikhailovsky District of Primorsky Territory ). After graduating from high school, he worked at the Vladivostok Shipyard. In 1942, Sergienko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In 1943, Sergienko graduated from junior lieutenant courses [1] .

By January 1945, Lieutenant Vasily Sergienko commanded a platoon of the 337th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 121st Guards Rifle Division of the 13th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland . In January 1945, the platoon of Sergienko was one of the first to cross the Oder and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore. On January 29, 1945, he was the first to break into the city of Raudten (now Rudna ). March 18, 1945 Sergienko died in battle. He was buried nine kilometers east of the city of Polkowice [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 10, 1945, the lieutenant Vasily Sergienko was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and the Red Star [1] .
