In 1912, the county was created again, but in 1915 it was again disbanded. In 1917, the county was re-created.
In 1949, Changzhi Special District (长治 专区) was formed, and the county became part of it. In 1958, Changzhi Special District was renamed the Jindongnan Special Region (晋东南 专区); Pingshun County was divided between Licheng and Huguan counties. In 1960, Pingshun County was recreated.
