Biography
He was born on March 24 ( April 5, according to a new style) in 1860 in a family of Georgian princes.
He studied in 1875-1881 at MUZHVZ with V. G. Perov , A. K. Savrasov , in 1881-1888 - at the Imperial Academy of Arts (IAH).
In 1881 he received a small silver medal for an etude from nature. In 1888 he was released with the title of a non-class (free) artist. In 1886-1887, as an artist, Gugunava collaborated in the magazine "World Illustration".
In 1892 he moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow , was one of the founders of the Moscow Art Partnership and the Sreda Society. He lived mainly in Moscow. He periodically traveled to his homeland, where he painted paintings from Georgian life, landscapes.
Since 1884, he was a participant in exhibitions (student, MUZHVZ). It was exhibited at the exhibitions of the TPHV (1887, 1888, 1890), the Moscow Society of Art Lovers (1891, 1894), the Association of South Russian Artists (1892), the Moscow Association of Artists (1895-1897, 1901-1913, 1916-1918), in the halls of the IAH ( 1896), the New Society of Artists (1910), the art circle "Wednesday" (1918) and others. He participated in the World Exhibition in Turin and Rome in 1911.
Gugunava also taught drawing at the 5th male gymnasium in Moscow.
He died in 1919 in Moscow.

The artist’s work is represented in a number of museum collections, including the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum.
