Biography
Born in 1827 in Constantinople. He graduated from the Khalka Theological School . He was ordained deacon by the metropolitan of Philippis Chrysanthus and served in the Philippopol metropolis . In 1857, together with the displaced Metropolitan Chrysanthus of Smyrna , he was admitted to the clergy of the Metropolitan of Smyrna and was appointed Archdeacon of the Metropolitan Cathedral.
On April 11, 1863, he was elected titular bishop of Bishop of Ksanfopolsky, vicar of the Smyrna Metropolis. On April 13 of the same year, he was ordained as a presbyter by the Metropolitan of Maronius Theoclitus [1]
On May 12, 1863, his episcopal consecration took place in the church of Saint Photinius, which was performed by: Metropolitan Chmyssan of Smyrna, Metropolitan of Fanariatorsale Neophytos, Bishop of Moscow, Cyril, Bishop of Arkadiopol, Ambrose, and Bishop of Erythria Zakharhahahahahahah Zahyahahahahahhakakhahakhakhakhakhakhakhakharhakhahakakhakhakhashkhar.
After the death in 1870 of Metropolitan Chrysanth, it was recommended by the clergy and flock to be elected head of the Diocese of Smyrna. Patriarch Gregory VI of Constantinople, his candidacy was rejected, and therefore the bishop was forced to retire. Began to publish in Smyrna religious and moral journal "Ευσέβεια", which was a great success.
In 1872, he was invited by Patriarch Sophronius IV of Alexandria to Egypt, where he was appointed governor of the Libyan metropolis and became one of the closest Patriarch of Alexandria.
Because of the conflict with Patriarch Sofrony on August 12, 1886, he retires. In July 1890, it was restored [1] .
On April 30, 1896, he arrived in Moscow and in May of the same year, as a representative of the Alexandrian Orthodox Church, took part in the coronation celebrations of Emperor Nicholas II in Moscow [2] . On May 30 of the same year, the Metropolitan of Libyan Ignatius arrived in Odessa and settled in the Panteleimonov Compound. He left Odessa on June 1 on the steamer "Tsar" [3] .
He died on April 17, 1899 in Cairo.
