Biography
Born in 1915 in the village of Lyutivlya, now in the Vyshnevolotsky district of the Tver region, into a peasant family. He graduated from 7 classes and the school of FZU. He worked at the Redkino railway station in Konakovsky district of the Kalinin region as a locksmith.
In the Red Army since 1936. He graduated from the military infantry school. Member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940.
The platoon commander of the 455th Infantry Regiment, candidate lieutenant Alexander Shilov, member of the CPSU (b) , led the capture group on February 11, 1940, entered the enemy’s location in the area of the village of Muurila on the Lohi Yoki River [1] and destroyed the pillbox with the garrison. In this battle, the brave officer died.
He was buried in the mass grave of the village of Ozerki [2] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 21, 1940, "for exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against the Finnish White Guard and courage and heroism shown at the same time," junior lieutenant Shilov Alexander Vasilievich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin .
A street in the hero city of Leningrad and the village of Shilovo in the Kolomensky rural settlement of the Vyshnevolotsky district of the Tver region are named after the Hero.
