Spilococcus alhagii

Spilococcus alhagii (lat.) Is a species of half-winged insects - coccid of the genus Spilococcus from the family of mealybugs ( Pseudococcidae ) [1] .

Africa: Egypt . Asia: Afghanistan , Iran , Saudi Arabia [1] [2] .

Description

They feed on the root juices of plants such as Alhagi maurorum ( Fabaceae ), Artemisia judaica , Echinops spinosus ( Asteraceae ), Suaeda fruticosa ( Amaranthaceae ), Cissus rotundifolia ( Vitaceae ), Nitraria retusa , Zygumophyumum . The species was first described in 1926 by entomologist W.J. Hall ( Hall, WJ ) as Pseudococcus alhagii together with Trionymus angustifrons [1] [3] [4] . The taxon Pseudococcus alhagii is included in the genus Pseudococcus Borchsenius, 1948 together with the species Spilococcus andersoni , Spilococcus artemisiphilus , Spilococcus atriplicis . The species name comes from the generic name of the host plant ( Alhagi ), on which the development of mealybugs occurs [1] .
