About the album
Cheryl began work on her third album in the summer of 2011. In the year preceding the release, she recorded more than 50 songs, and the future track list was already selected from them [2] . Many artists, authors, and producers were involved in the creative process, including Tayo Cruz [3] , Calvin Harris, will.i.am , Alex Da Kid, and Lana Del Rey [4] . Musically, Cheryl remained a fan of the genre of dance music, but on the disc you can also hear R&B and dubstep. [5]
"A Million Lights" was released by the singer under the name "Cheryl" - the girl decided to get rid of the name of her ex-husband [6] .
Singles
- “Call My Name” - ( Eng . “Call My Name”), release 10.06.2012. The composition, which became the first single, was written and produced by Calvin Harris, and was originally offered to Rita Ora , but she refused, citing the fact that the song “is not in her style” [7] . But she brought success to Cheryl, soaring in the very first hours of the release to the top of the British chart, and becoming one of the fastest-sold singles for 2012 [8] . The release of the video for “Call My Name”, filmed in Los Angeles, took place on May 2, 2012. [9]
- “Under The Sun” - ( Eng . “Under the Sun”), release 02.09.2012. The second single was chosen one of Cheryl's favorite songs [10] , alas, which did not receive much commercial success. The single debuted at the 36th line, and although it later rose to the 13th, Cheryl became the second solo work, not included in the top five [11] . The video clip for the song was shot in the spirit of the 50s, its release took place on July 26, 2012 [12] .
The third single was supposed to be the song “Screw You,” but its release did not take place due to Cheryl’s employment in connection with the reunion of Girls Aloud [13] . A video was created for the song from photos sent by fans that illustrated the lyrics of the song [14] . In addition, at the end of December 2012, a video was released for the song “Ghetto Baby”, in which Cheryl appeared in a dance duet with her then boyfriend Tre Holloway [15] .
