Club career

Real Sociedad

Mikel Alonso began a football career in the youth ranks of the Real Sociedad team, as did his younger brother Xabi Alonso . He made his debut in the Championship of Spain on April 22, 2001 . However, the presence of his sibling and Mikel Aranburu in the midfield center meant that he was limited to a supporting role, and he was sent to the Numansiya team on a leasehold until the second league of the 2003-04 season . Under the guidance of Jose Marie Bachero , the importance of a player on the team was demonstrated in the 2005-06 championship , when he was the most used footballer in 37 games.

After his brother Xabi joined the Liverpool England team, Alonso also decided to move to the Premier League . He joined the Bolton Wanderers team, another team in northwest England , on July 10, 2007 with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the season. After manager Sammy Lee was fired, under new coach Gary Megson , he made only two appearances for the team.

Tenerife

After being released from Real Sociedad, Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez offered Alonso a chance to recover. After his brother strongly recommended as a coach and player to arrange a deal, he accepted the offer and joined the team in the training process.

However, Alonso did not stay in Wales , and at the end of January 2009, he moved to the Tenerife team. He accepted the offer and stated that he “heard good things” about Tenerife. However, he remained a fan of his former club Real Sociedad, saying that although the team was a rival for Tenerife.

In the 2009/10 championship, Alonso began playing as a starter, scoring a goal in the second round, in a duel against Athletic Bilbao .

Charlton

At the end of June 2011, after leaving Tenerife, the 31-year-old Alonso returned to England, joining the team of the first football league Charlton Athletic . He made his official debut on October 5 in the Football League Trophy , playing in Valley Stadium against the Brentford team.

Alonso was released at the end of the season, making no appearances in any of the three major competitions.
