Getting
- Fusion of stoichiometric amounts of uranium trioxide and sodium carbonate in an oxygen atmosphere:
Physical Properties
Sodium uranate forms yellow crystals of triclinic syngony , cell parameters a = 0.4162 nm, b = 0.6251 nm, c = 0.66988 nm, α = 90.95 °, β = 96.12 °, γ = 109.25 °.
At 920 ° С, a phase transition to rhombic syngony occurs, the space group F mmm , cell parameters a = 0.5802 nm, b = 0.5969 nm, c = 1.1699 nm, [1] .
Not soluble in water.
Application, danger of use
- An intermediate product in the separation and purification of uranium.
- It is introduced into the mixture during the cooking of some varieties of uranium glass .
- Like all uranium compounds, it is radioactive and very toxic.
