Biography
Nikolai Sednenkov was born on April 21, 1919 in the village of Trutnevo, Krasninsky district [1] . After graduating from a junior high school and a factory apprenticeship school in Smolensk, he worked at the Yartsevsky Electromechanical Plant, studied at the flying club. In 1938, Sednenkov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940, he graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School . Since May 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [2] .
By July 1944, the Guard Lieutenant Nikolai Sednenkov commanded the link of the 7th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment of the 230th Assault Air Division of the 4th Air Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front . By that time, he had made 115 sorties to attack clusters of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, his important objects, inflicting heavy losses on him. On September 3, 1944, in the vicinity of the city of Ostroleka in Poland, Sednenkov’s plane was shot down during a sortie (it fell 18 km east of Ostroleka [3] ), and the entire crew died. He was buried in Ostroleka [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1944, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism” of the guard, Lieutenant Nikolai Sednenkov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [2] .
Memory
On September 22, 2016, a memorial plaque to N. P. Sednenkov [4] [5] was installed on the building of the Trostyansk Basic School.
