Description

Small short-winged beetles - palps ( Pselaphinae ). Myrmecophiles , found as an incquiline of ants of the species Rhytidoponera metallica (Smith, 1858) (from the ponerina subfamily) and Iridomyrmex rufoniger (Lowne, 1865) ( dolichoderins ). The head and pronotum are covered with micro mesh sculpture. The frontal rostrum of the head is long and protruding. 4th segment of mandibular palps wide throughout its entire length; 3rd segment small and triangular; 2nd segment stalked at the base. The species was first described in 1900 by the French diplomat and zoologist Achille Raffray ( Achille Raffray , 1844-1923). The valid status was confirmed in 2001 during a birth audit by the American entomologist Professor Donald S. Chandler ( Chandler Donald S .; University of New Hampshire , Durham , New Hampshire , USA ) [2] . The taxon Curculionellus riparius is included in a separate genus Curculionellus together with the species Curculionellus punctatus (King, 1865) and Curculionellus semipolitus Schaufuss, 1886 and assigned to the tribe Pselaphini from the subfamily Pselaphinae [3] [4] .
