"Rocker Park" ( born Roker Park ) - a football stadium in Sunderland , England . Built in 1897, it was the home arena of Sunderland Football Club until 1997, when the new Stadium of Light stadium was built. By the end of its history, the stadium accommodated 22,500 spectators with a small number of seats. In previous years, the capacity of Rocker Park was much higher, the record number was 75,118 spectators in one match. [one]

Rocker Park was one of eight stadiums hosting the 1966 World Cup . Three games of the group stage were played by the teams of the USSR , Italy and Chile , all matches were played between these teams. In addition, a quarter-final game was held here, in which the USSR team beat Hungary with a score of 2: 1, July 23, 1966 .
Rocker Park was a stadium, which mainly consisted of terraces with standing spaces. By the beginning of the 1990s, it was outdated and there was an urgent need to modernize it, the more Taylor's report ordered all Premier League and Football League clubs to equip their stadiums with only seating for the beginning of the 1994/95 season. But the transformation of the stands into completely sedentary would lead to a significant reduction in the number of seats. Therefore, it was decided to build a new stadium .
In the last farewell game in 1997 at Rocker Park, Liverpool's opponent was Sunderland. Sunderland won 1-0, the last goal at Rocker Park was scored by midfielder John Mullin .
Rocker Park was dismantled in 1998 . The stadium site was given for residential development.
