Juan Carlos Onetti ( Spanish: Juan Carlos Onetti ; July 1, 1909 , Montevideo - May 30, 1994 , Madrid ) - Uruguayan writer . Representative of the “generation of the 45th year”, which also belonged to Mario Benedetti and others.

Biography
In 1930-1955 he lived in Buenos Aires , then returned to Montevideo. In 1974 he was arrested and imprisoned, released under pressure from the world community. In 1975 he went to Spain, where he lived the rest of his life. The last five years I have not got out of bed.
Creativity
Prose Onetti, with his lone hero who doubts himself and the world, is parallel to the search for the French existentialists .
Recognition
The winner of the literary prize of Uruguay ( 1962 ), Prize "Miguel de Cervantes" ( 1980 ). In the same year he was nominated by one of the candidates for the Nobel Prize . In 1985 he received the Uruguay Great Literary Prize, but refused to visit his native country.
Onetti dedicated the monograph to Mario Vargas Llosa ( 2008 ).
