Geography

The urban district of Nalchik is located in the central part of the republic, on both banks of the Nalchik River. It borders with the Chegem region in the west, north and east, and the Cherek region in the south and southeast.

The area of the municipality is 133.31 km 2 . The district consists of 5 settlements.

The urban district is located in the foothill zone of the republic. From the west, south and east, the district is surrounded by ridges of the northern slope of the Forest Range , whose heights within the district reach 1000 meters. The highest points of this ridge are the mountains - Nartia (999.8 m), Bolshaya Kizilovka (849 m), Malaya Kizilovka and others. The second ridge of the Forest Range, already located outside the urban district, is characterized by higher elevations of 1300-1500 meters above sea level. The ridge is covered with dense mixed forest and has a steep almost steep slope in the south and a more gentle northern part. The outlines of the hills are usually soft and smooth. The hilly hills in the north and east gradually pass into the inclined Kabardian foothill plain , with a wavy relief. The average altitude in the urban district is about 575 meters above the level of the mera, and ranges from 450 meters in the northeast to 1000 meters in the south of the district. Geomorphologically, the territory under consideration is confined to the area of transition of the low foothills of the Forest Range to the sloping undulating foothill plain.

The territory of the urban district in the direction from south-west to north-east is crossed by many rivers, the largest of which are the rivers Nalchik , Shalushka , Kenzhe , Belaya , Nartia , Sukhaya Shalushka , Mishkhich , etc. In the center of the city there is a network of lakes, the most the largest of which is Lake Kurortnoe . Also in the district there are exits of mineral and spring sources, and a network of artificial reservoirs.

Climate

The climate in the urban district is humid and temperate ( Dfb according to the Köppen climate classification ) [6] , with warm summers and cool, little snowy winters. The relative proximity of the Main Caucasus Range has a noticeable effect on the climate of the urban district. In the formation of climate, a significant role is played by protection from direct intrusion of cold air. A characteristic feature is the sharp daily fluctuations in air temperature, especially observed in the summer. These features are associated with local mountains and valley winds (mountain breezes).

The average air temperature ranges from + 25 ° ... + 28 ° C in July, to −3 ° ... -5 ° C in January. The highest air temperatures are observed in late July - early August, and the lowest in late January - early February.

The average annual rainfall is about 700 mm. The maximum recorded rainfall is 982 mm., And a record daily maximum of 105 mm.

The relative humidity is unstable. The average annual humidity is 78%, reaching a maximum in the winter of 85–86% and a minimum in the summer of 68–69%. The prevailing wind directions throughout the year are south-west, east and north-east.

History

In 1992, the Nalchik City Council ( City Council ), which consisted of two intra-city districts - Leninsky and Oktyabrsky, was abolished and transformed into the Nalchik city administration.

In 1995, the villages of Belaya Rechka, Kenzhe and Khasanya were transformed into villages, and a separate local government was created in the village of Adiyuh as part of the Nalchik city administration.

The city district of Nalchik was formed in 2005 on the basis of the disbanded Nalchik city administration. It included the city of Nalchik , as well as the settlements from the disbanded city administration - the village of Adiyuh ( with the status of a village ) and the villages of Belaya Rechka , Kenzhe and Khasanya .

Nalchik is a large industrial center in the North Caucasus, where a diversified industrial structure has formed. The most developed industries are non - ferrous metallurgy , electrical and light industry , mechanical engineering , construction and medical industry.

Currently, special attention is paid to the development of small and medium-sized businesses, where there are 3248 small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as 9412 individual entrepreneurs.
