Biography
Vasily Sarkisyan was born on March 15, 1922 in Odessa . After completing nine classes of school he worked in a factory. In 1941, Sarkisyan was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. In 1942, Sarkisyan graduated from the Ryazan Infantry School [1] .
By September 1943, Guards Lieutenant Vasily Sarkisyan commanded a motorized rifle platoon of the 54th Guards Tank Brigade of the 7th Guards Tank Corps of the 3rd Guards Tank Army of the Voronezh Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . On September 24, 1943, the forward detachment led by Sarkisyan crossed the Dnieper near the village of Trakhtemirov, Mironovsky District, Kiev Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, and took an active part in the battles to seize and hold the bridgehead on its western bank, holding on to the main forces crossing [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 17, 1943, Guard Lieutenant Vasily Sarkisyan was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1945, Sarkisyan graduated from the highest officer armored school. In 1947, in the rank of captain, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in Odessa. Suddenly died on September 19, 1968 [1] .
He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
