Physical Properties

Sodium hydroarsenite forms colorless crystals.

It is soluble in water.

Forms a crystalline hydrate of the composition Na 2 HAsO 3 • 12H 2 O.

Chemical Properties

  • When heated, it is easily oxidized by atmospheric oxygen (the same thing happens during long-term storage):
2Na2HAsO3+O2→60-75oC2Na2HAsOfour{\ displaystyle {\ mathsf {2Na_ {2} HAsO_ {3} + O_ {2} \ {\ xrightarrow {60-75 ^ {o} C}} \ 2Na_ {2} HAsO_ {4}}}}
  • Is a reducing agent:

Application

  • Pest control agent for agricultural plants.
  • A preparation for the preparation of poisoned baits.
  • It is used as a herbicide and in veterinary medicine .

Toxicity

Since it is an arsenic-containing substance, sodium hydroarsenite is toxic . The strongest inorganic poison.
