David Joerger ( born January 21, 1974) is an American professional basketball coach who has recently been the head coach of the Sacramento Kings National Basketball Association . Prior to joining the NBA, Jorger worked as the head coach of the Dakota Wizards from 2002 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2007, who played in the International Basketball Association , Continental Basketball Association and the NBA Development League . Under his leadership, the team became a champion in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007. He also worked as the head coach of the Sioux Falls club, with whom he won the championship in 2005.

Beginning of a coaching career
After completing his studies at the University of Minnesota at Moorhead, Jorger was promoted to general manager of the Dakota Wizards International Basketball Association club. In 1997, he became assistant coach [1] , and in the 2000/01 season he already took the post of head coach. Under his leadership, the club markedly improved its results, ending the season with 30 wins and 10 losses. In the championship finals against Des Moines Dragons , which took place in the format of up to 3 victories, Wizards lost the first two meetings, but won the next three and became champions of the association [2] .
NBA Career
Before the start of the 2007/08 NBA season, Jorger was appointed assistant coach of the NBA club Memphis Grizzlies, where he began to work under the leadership of Mark Aivaroni . In 2011, under the leadership of Lynell Hollins, Jorger began to prove himself as one of the best assistants and became one of the main specialists in the defense team. With its help, the Grizzlies improved their defensive play and, according to this indicator, took 9th place in 2011 (in 2010 the club took 24th place), 7 in 2012 and 2 in 2013 [3] .
On June 10, 2013, the Grizzlies management announced that although the team had reached the finals of the Western Conference for the first time in its history, the contract for the next season would not be extended with Hollins [4] . On June 27, 2013, Jorger took over as the head coach of Memphis Grizzlies [5] .
In his debut season, Jorger was twice called the coach of the month of the Western Conference in January and April [6] [7] .
On May 28, 2014, it was announced that a contract was extended with Jorger for another three years [8] .
On May 7, 2016, Memphis fired Jorger [9] , and on May 9 he signed a four-year contract with the Sacramento Kings [10] .
For three years at Kings, Jorger never managed to get his team to the playoffs and on April 11, 2019, David was fired from his post [11] [12] .
