Biography
Spyros Vandoros was born in Piraeus in 1887. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts with Dimitrios Geraniotis . He graduated with honors. He continued his studies in Munich and Berlin, after which he visited Paris, where he stayed for some time, studying decorative art. His works include portraits, landscapes and decorative compositions. In its seascapes, the influence of the painting of Ioannis Altamuras is noticeable. In the portrait of his wife (1934), Vandoros deliberately repeats the portrait of Sarah Bernhardt by the French artist Jules Bastien-Lepage , with the only difference being that despite all the outward resemblance to Bernard, the wife of Vandoros is holding, instead of a figurine, the ancient Greek kylikos [2] . Spyros Vandoros died in Athens in 1940 [3] . His works are stored and exhibited at the National Gallery of Greece at the Municipal Gallery of Athens and several other public galleries and private collections [4] .
