Biography
Origin and background
Diarmait poppy Mile on m-Bo belonged to the clan of Ui Chensnselig (Ir. - Uí Cheinnselaig) - from the group of clans of southeast Leinster . His father is Donnhad mac Diarmata (Ir. - Donnchad mac Diarmata) better known as Mael na m-Bo (Irl. - Máel na mBó). To the ancestors of Diarmait belonged King Leinster Krimtann Mack Endai , who ruled in the V century . His great-grandfather, Domnall poppy Kellig, belonged to the kings of the clan Wye Heynnselayg (d. 974 ). Diarmait’s mother was Aife (airl. - Aife) - the daughter of Gilla Patraika mac Donnchada (airl. - Gilla Pátraic mac Donnchada) - King Osraig ( 1039 - 1055 ). Diarmait had a brother - Domnall Remayr, whose son - Donnhad poppy Domnayl Remayr became king of Leinster ( 1075 - 1089 ).
Clan Wye Heynnselayg was a strong clan in Ireland, but his power was broken in the battle of Ah Selaig in 738 . The rivals and enemies of this clan was the clan Ui Dunlaying (Ir. - Uí Dúnlainge) from the north of Leinster , who owned the lands of Naas and Kildare. This was the situation during the time of King Briand Boru that he broke the power and undivided right to the throne of the clan Wye Neil . The decline of the Clann Holmain and the defeat of the Wye Dunlinge clan, led by Mael Morda mak Murhada (Ir. - Máel Mórda mac Murchada), who sided with the Vikings in the Battle of Klontarf in 1014 and were defeated with them, led to the new rise of the Wye Hennseläig clan.
In the X century, the Scandinavian Vikings once again tried to conquer Ireland. They ruthlessly robbed the island and captured a number of territories, including Dublin . But at the same time they built cities and ports in Ireland - to this, Ireland was an exclusively agrarian country. Kings of Leinster benefited from trade and ties with the Vikings, although the Vikings seized their territories on the coast - Dublin, Wexford , Waterford . After the defeat of the Vikings, the kings of Leinster strengthened, capturing the Viking cities and their lands.
The path to power
Diarmight Mac Mile on m-Bo as King of Leinster made an alliance with Niall Mac Eochada (Irl. - Niall mac Eochada), King of Ulster ( 1016 - 1063 ), on both sides to exert pressure on the kingdoms of Meade, Brega and Dublin , which are under control supreme kings of ireland. The alliance proved successful - Leinster consolidated his influence and power and captured Dublin.
In 1042, Diarmight poppy Mile on m-Bo became the king of Leinster, and in 1052 approved his son Murhad (d. 1070) king of Dublin. In 1061, Murhad Mack Diarmait became king of the Isle of Man. With control over the largest cities of the country, Diarmight poppy Mile on m-Bo could now lay claim to the throne and crown of the supreme kings of Ireland, which he did by dropping his predecessor, Donnhad poppy Briane, in 1063 . Donnhad poppy Briain renounced power and became a pilgrim.
In 1066, the Normans captured England, defeating the supporters of the Anglo-Saxon king Harald Godwinsson at the Battle of Hastings . The sons of King Harold (Godwin and Edmund) fled from England and took refuge in Ireland, at the court of King Diarmite Poppy Michael na m-bo. In 1068, Diarmait began preparing a fleet for the invasion of England.
Death
But these plans are not destined to be realized. Diarmight poppy Mile on m-Bo fought a war with his rival - King Meade Konkhobar Wa Mael Sehyln ( 1030 - 1073 ). Diarmight died during the battle of Navan (modern county of Meath ) on February 7, 1072 .
