Biography
Carolina Matilda was born on April 27, 1912 in the Egersborhuse country house in Gentofte, in the east of Denmark. She was the second child and the second daughter in the family of the Danish Prince Harald and his wife Helen Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg . The girl received the name in honor of the grandmother of Carolina Matilda Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg. In the family, the girl was usually called Calma.
Had an older sister Theodora . Subsequently, the younger sister of Alexandrina Louise and the brothers Gorm and Olaf appeared at Carolina Matilda. She lived in the family estate of Harald, Egersborhus. In 1918 they moved to the villa Svanemøllevej.
At the age of 21, Caroline Matilda married in the chapel of the Fredensborg Palace with her cousin, the 33-year-old prince of the Danish Knud. The ceremony was performed on September 8, 1933.
The residence of the couple was the castle Sorgenfri north of Copenhagen. In 1944, the couple inherited the castle of Egelund in North Zealand from Prince Gustav Danish , which was their property until 1954. [2] Also from 1952, the family owned the Klitgarden summer house in Skagen. [3]
In 1947, Prince Knud became the heir to the throne, since his brother Frederick had only daughters who, by law, could not inherit the crown. Caroline-Matilda, therefore, became the crown princess. In 1953, the Constitution was changed, and women were able to follow the throne. Thus, the order of succession has changed.
Knud died on June 14, 1976. Caroline Matilda and further lived in the palace Sorgenfri. She died on December 12, 1995. Buried in the second underground chapel of Roskilde Cathedral next to her husband. [four]

The couple had three children:
- Elizabeth (1935–2018) - was not married, had no children;
- (born 1940) - concluded a morganatic marriage and received the title of Count Rosenborg , no children;
- (1942–2013) - concluded a morganatic marriage with Anna Dorothy Maltoft-Nielsen and received the title of Count Rosenborg , had three daughters:
- Josephine (born 1972), the wife of Thomas Christian Schmidt (born 1970), has two children;
- Camilla (b. 1972) - spouse of Mikael Rosanes (b. 1952), has four children;
- Theodora (born 1975) is the wife of Morten Rennou , they have a daughter.
