Biography
Mikhail Salnikov was born on November 21, 1919 in Sevastopol . After finishing five grades of the school, he worked as a tractor driver. In 1937, Salnikov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts [1] .
By June 1944, Petty Officer Mikhail Salnikov was a tank driver of the 152nd Tank Brigade of the 8th Army of the Leningrad Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Estonian SSR . On June 18, 1944, during the fighting north of Tartu , Salnikov’s crew destroyed 1 anti-tank gun, 4 vehicles, 2 armored personnel carriers, 4 bunkers and several dozen enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Sergeant Mikhail Salnikov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1947, Salnikov was demobilized. He lived and worked in Leningrad . He died on April 12, 1978 [1] .
He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Star , the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree and a number of medals [1] .
