Marion County ( eng. Marion County ) is located in the United States , Kansas . Officially formed on the 30th of August 1855 . As of 2010 , the population was 12,660 people. It got its name in honor of the American military leader and participant in the War of Independence of the USA Francis Marion .

According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 2,469.7 km², of which 2,442.6 km² is land and 27.00 km², or 1.09% is water.

According to the 2000 census [1] , there are 13,361 inhabitants in the district, consisting of 5,114 households and 3,687 families . The population density is 5.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 5,882 residential buildings, with a building density of about 2.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 97.06%, African Americans - 0.47%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.59%, Asians - 0.19%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.55 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.14%. Hispanic was 1.92% of the population, regardless of race .
In the composition of 30.50% of the total number of households live children under the age of 18 years, 63.80% of households are married couples living together, 5.50% of households are single women without a spouse, 27.90% of households households are not related to families , 25.20% of households consist of one person, 14.20% of households consist of elderly (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.46 people and the average family size is 2.94 people.
The age structure of the county: 24.80% younger than 18 years old, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 23.50% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64 and 22.70% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 41 years old. For every 100 females there are 95.10 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.20 males .
The average income per household in the district was 34,500 USD , per family - 41,386 USD . The average earnings of a man were 30,236 USD versus 21,119 USD for a woman . The per capita income was 16,100 USD . About 4.80% of families and 8.30% of the total population were below the poverty line , including 9.50% of young people (those who are under 18) and 9.70% of those who were over 65 .
