Marion (county, West Virginia)

Marion County is located in the United States , West Virginia . It was officially formed on January 14 , 1842 . According to 2010 data , the population was 56,678 people. Got its name in honor of the American political and military leader, participant in the US War of Independence, Francis Marion .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 808 km ², of which 800 km ² land and 7.3 km ² or 0.3% are water bodies.

Demographics

According to the 2000 census [1] , 56,598 residents of 23,652 households and 15,515 families live in the okrug. The population density is 71 people per km ². There are 26,660 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of 33 buildings per km². Racial composition of the population: white - 95.10%, African - Americans - 3.22%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.20%, Asians - 0.41%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.13 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.93%. Hispanics accounted for 0.70% of the population, regardless of race .

Out of the total number of households , 26.00% are children under the age of 18 years, 51.40% of households are married couples living together, 10.70% of households are single women without a spouse, 34.40% of households households are not related to families , 28.90% of households consist of one person, 13.90% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.34 people and the average family size is 2.88 people.

The age structure of the district: 20.60% under the age of 18, 10.50% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 24.70% from 45 to 64 and 17.80% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.60 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.30 males .

The average household income in the district was 21 626 USD , per family - 37 182 USD . The average male earnings were $ 29,005 versus $ 21,100 for a woman . The per capita income was 16,246 USD . About 11.70% of families and 16.30% of the total population were below the poverty line , including 21.30% of young people (those who were not yet 18 years old) and 8.70% of those who were already over 65 years old.
