Mercer County is located in the United States , Kentucky . Officially established in 1785 . As of 2010, the population was 21,331 people. Got its name in honor of the American military leader and doctor Hugh Mercer .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 655.6 km², of which 649.9 km² is land and 5.7 km² or 0.87% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 20,817 inhabitants, consisting of 8,423 households and 6,039 families . The population density is 32.00 people per km 2 . There are 9,289 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 14.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 94.00%, African Americans - 3.69%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.21%, Asians - 0.47%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 0.63 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.96%. Hispanics accounted for 1.27% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 31.80% are children under the age of 18, 57.80% of households are married couples living together, 10.40% of households are single women without a spouse, 28.30% of households households are not related to families , 25.10% of households consist of one person, 11.60% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.93.
The age structure of the district: 24.40% under the age of 18, 7.40% from 18 to 24, 29.10% from 25 to 44, 24.50% from 45 to 64, and 14.60% from 65 and older.
