Biography

He was born on July 22, 1922 in the village of Mazovo (now - Elninsky district of the Smolensk region ). After graduating from seven classes of the school, he worked as a tractor driver. In 1941, Savchenkov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Cherkasy Infantry School (evacuated to Sverdlovsk). Since June of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By September 1943, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Savchenkov commanded a company of the 722th Infantry Regiment of the 206th Infantry Division of the 47th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 25, 1943, the company of Savchenkova was the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Pekari, Kanevsky District, Cherkasy Region of the Ukrainian SSR, and seized the bridgehead on its western shore, after which it held him until the crossing of the main forces, destroying 6 tanks. In those battles, Savchenkov personally raised his company twice in a counterattack, was wounded twice, but continued to fight [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Savchenkov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 6654 [1] .

In 1946, with the rank of captain, Savchenkov was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked first in his homeland, then in Gorky , Feodosia . He died on July 17, 1977, was buried in the village of Primorsky of the Feodosia City Council of Crimea [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and a number of medals [1] .

In honor of Savchenkov named street in Primorsky [1] .
