History

The garden was founded in the 18th century by the largest Tula industrial dynasty, the Batashevs, the forefather of the dynasty, gunsmith Ivan Timofeevich Batashev , his son Rodion Ivanovich Batashev and grandsons Ivan and Andrei .

Along the Tulitsa River, 300 meters from the Batashevsky Bridge on Karpov Street, the earth mounds of the former dam of the Batashevsky blast furnace and hammer-water plant, built in 1716-1717, remained, the remains of which are located in the Proletarsky district of Tula. Not far from the plant was the manor Batashevs (not preserved to this day), next to it downstream of Tulitsa and a garden was laid out, which marked the beginning of the current forest area near the Stadium of the Stamp plant.

The garden consisted of two parts on both banks of the river - the old and the new, which received the name of the Large and Small Gardens. The right bank part in those years had an area of 1 dessiatin 796 square sazhen.

The garden was characterized in documents of 1777 as irregular, but in terms of the Big Garden had a clear regular layout: rays-alleys, diverging from the center, divided it into 8 segments. In the garden grew including fruit trees: apples, pears, plums, the fruits of which were used "for the master's expense." Nearby there was a small pond - a digging fish seed , where crucians and lines were bred for the same purpose.

By the end of the XIX century, the garden became one of the favorite resting places of Tula. It was at that time that the garden received its popular name - Batashevsky.

At the beginning of the 20th century, “Tula provincial Gazette” spoke of the garden as follows: “A fun place for country walks with shady avenues, with Tulitsa flowing through the garden in the form of the letter S ...”.

On June 12, 1908, the vowels of the City Duma considered the proposal to liquidate a part of the garden along the left bank of the Tulitsa. The reason for such a proposal was the fact that the river, making a large loop in the garden, was washing the Chulkovsky side in high water, and cleaning the riverbed and its strengthening “cause large expenses”. At the same time, proposals were received from Bolkhovsky bourgeois Mikhail Azbukin - he wanted to rent a garden for 15 years from September 1908 and asked to allow the city authorities to open there “a tea buffet and a pavilion for selling fruit water and ice cream, and also to determine hay fields in the garden and keep cows and horses here. ” In return, Azbukin promised to maintain the garden in good order, ensuring order and peace of rest by the forces of hired security. On weekends, the public should have been entertained by a brass band. The Duma rejected both proposals and put forward its own: to cut down part of the garden, to sell the trees, and to give the cut down to a meadow.

In 1922, part of the Batashevsky Garden was re-equipped by young workers of the ammunition factory and was called “Park named after Demyan Poor”. At this time, there was built a summer cinema, reading room, dance floor and a stand for shooting plates, on the river was equipped separate for women and men swimming pools. In the following years, a restaurant and a ferris wheel were built. On holidays and weekends in the park, families walked, having tea with samovars in nature.

In 1928, the Hammer and Sickle Stadium opened in the garden (later renamed Stamp of the Plant).

In the autumn of 1941, during the defense of the city, trenches were dug near the garden, the Ferris wheel was dismantled, and there was an anti-aircraft battery in the stadium territory.

In 1950, the collective agreement of the plant Stamp was planned: to build a bathhouse on the Tulitsa River, plant 100 pieces of trees and 500 bushes, bring water supply and put a shower.

Up until the early 1990s, the garden continued to be popular among city residents.

On October 19, 1994, a meeting was held with the director of the department of the regional administration for the protection of public health and the environment A.F. Simankin on the establishment of an arboretum in Tula in the territory of the Batashevsky Garden. A temporary team "Demidov and Batashevsky Gardens" was created, headed by his deputy. G. Krasnenko, Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Historical Heritage of the city of Tula. However, these plans have not been implemented.

By the end of the 1990s, the garden was neglected, almost all the buildings began to collapse.

In the 2000s, residential development of the stadium territory and part of the garden was planned, preparatory work was started on the arrangement of the construction site.

In 2014, the General Plan of Tula garden classified as specially protected natural areas. All issued orders for private construction in the territory of the Batashevsky Garden were canceled. Subbotniki began to clean up and clean up the area of debris.
