Jämsänjoki (formerly Jämsänjoki [1] [2] ) ( Finnish. Jämsänjoki ) is a river in Central Finland , flowing out of Lake Kankarisvesi , which is part of the Kumijoki River in the north of the country. The river crosses the center of Jämsä and Jääsmänkoski and flows into Lake Päijänne , the second largest lake in Finland.

The river is 15 km long, the catchment area is 1448.3 km². But despite its small length, the river has always been of great economic and cultural importance in the region of nearby cities and villages.
In the area of Koscenpää and Jämsänkoski, the river is blocked off by dams of power plants supplying energy to one of Finland's largest paper mills UPM Yhtyneet Paperitehtaat Jämsänkoski [3] .
