Biography
He graduated from the Nemirovsky Real Gymnasium (1870) and the natural department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the University of St. Vladimir (1874).
He worked as a teacher of natural history and geography at the Korostyshev teacher’s seminary. Since 1877, he worked at the University of St. Vladimir in Kiev as a keeper of the Zoological Museum and then as a laboratory assistant.
Since 1886 - privat-docent. In 1879–1882 he was sent to the Crimea to study the fauna of the peninsula, in 1886–1887 he was engaged in faunal research in the provinces of the South-Western Territory .
He was a member of the Kiev Society of Naturalists. Together with N. A. Bunge, he edited The Index of Russian Literature on Mathematics, Pure and Applied Natural Sciences, published by the Kiev Society of Naturalists in 1873-1913.
Scientific activity
He substantiated the independence of the Ponto-Caspian-Aral faunal province.
