Biography

From a family of Sephardic Jews of Turkish origin [4] . During the Anschluss of Austria in 1938, he was able to leave the country thanks to a Turkish passport and Operation Kindertransport , while his mother, Paula Azriel (née Pasqua, 1880-1942), who had only Austrian citizenship, remained in Austria and committed suicide before deportation [5] . Father, Victor Azriel (1873-1931), was a native of Belgrade .

Pupil Ernst Herman Mayer and Hans Eisler . To the Anschluss - in Vienna. In 1939-1945 he lived in exile in London . Since 1950 she has been teaching at the Higher School of Music in Berlin , since 1968 - her professor. He wrote music for performances and films.
