Biography
Born in 1919 in the town of Saltara. During the war he fought in the province of Pesaro e Urbino . Son - Giancarlo Iacchini (Giancarlo Iacchini). He died in 1977 in Pesaro.
Feat
On August 26, 1944, Nello Iaccini saved the lives of Winston Churchill and Marshal Harold Alexander during their visit to the part of Italy freed from the Germans, preventing the sniper’s attempt when the latter was to shell the British prime minister’s jeep, Winston Churchill [1] . The sniper was detained by partisans and transferred to the allied forces. He was hiding in the garden on the road from the hill, where Churchill and Alexander watched the battle, in the town of Saltara. Iacchini and his comrades found out about the attempt on whom they managed to prevent only when the Canadians were disarmed, and Churchill's motorcade passed a few minutes later.
Glory
After being awarded the Certificate of Feat, Iaccini was remembered only a few decades later. In the 2000s, several articles were published in the press of Italy and England , and a public park named after him was opened in the city of Saltara. In 2006, the city of Saltara appealed to the President of Italy with a request for a posthumous award for the hero. It is believed that in the journal (in fact, the diary) of Churchill himself, in the record of August 25, 1944, events related to the prevented assassination are described.
