Biography

Ananiy Sabashnikov was born on November 5, 1917 in the city of Vyazniki (now Vladimir Region ). After graduating from the Vyaznikovsky College of Flax Industry, he worked at a flax factory. In October 1941, Sabashnikov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He graduated from the school of junior commanders. Since 1942 - on the fronts of World War II. In the battles he was wounded. In 1942, Sabashnikov graduated from the Moscow Military-Political School, in 1943 - courses of company commanders [1] .

By June 1944, Guard Lieutenant Ananiy Sabashnikov commanded a company of the 213rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 71st Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR . On June 22, 1944, Sabashnikov’s company broke through the German defenses in the area of ​​the village of Orekhi in the Shumilinsky district and was among the first to break into the settlements of Shumilino and Sirotino , fighting in the West Dvina . On June 24, 1944, Sabashnikov was among the first to cross the Western Dvina in the area of ​​the Mamaiki village of the Beshenkovichi district and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore, repelling several German counterattacks. In those battles, Sabashnikov was wounded, but continued to fight for another two days, until he lost consciousness [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944, for the "exemplary performance of command missions on the front line against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard, senior lieutenant Ananiy Sabashnikov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal " Golden Star ” under number 4073 [1] .

In 1946, with the rank of captain, Sabashnikov was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in his hometown. He died on May 29, 2003, was buried on the Walk of Fame in Vyazniki [1] .

Honorary Citizen Vyaznikov. He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
