Biography

From 1975 to 1982 he studied at the prestigious Dalich College , after which he worked at the London Metal Exchange [3] .

Since the summer of 1999 he is a member of the European Parliament from southeast England . He was co-chairman of the parliamentary faction of Europe for freedom and direct democracy .

Faraj is one of the founders of the Independence Party of the United Kingdom, after the termination of membership in the Conservative Party in 1992 due to the signing of the Maastricht Treaty . After a series of unsuccessful election campaigns from the PNSC in the European and British parliamentary elections since 1994, he won the seat of the European Parliament from the constituency of southeast England in the 1999 European Parliament elections - the first year the regional list system began to be used - and was re-elected to 2004, 2009 and 2014.

In September 2006, Faraj became the leader of the United Kingdom’s Independence Party and led the party in the 2009 European Parliament , which won the second largest share of the vote, defeating Labor and Liberal Democrats with an advantage of more than 2 million votes. In November 2009, he resigned to concentrate on the struggle for the place of speaker John Birkow in the 2010 parliamentary elections in the UK. Faraj failed to defeat Birkow, taking third place in the Buckingham constituency.

In November 2010, Faraj won the election of the party leader, after the previous resignation. In October 2009, Faraj ranked 41st in The Daily Telegraph 's survey of “100 Most Influential Right-wing Politicians,” which highlighted his ability to use the media and the success of PNSK in the European elections. On July 4, 2016, he resigned as leader of the PNSK party [4] . In 2018, he left the PNSK in protest against the appointment of new party leader Gerard Batten to the post of his adviser to , known for his extreme right anti-Islamic views [5] , and in early 2019 founded the Brexit party to politically defend the results referendum on Britain's membership in the European Union .
