During the Russo-Turkish War of 1735-1739, which Austria entered into in 1737 , participated, as agreed with the Habsburgs, in organizing an anti-Ottoman uprising in southern Serbia , which ended in failure. After the retreat of Austrian troops from Serbia, he emigrated to Austrian possessions, where since 1741 he led the Serbian Orthodox Church as the Karlovac Metropolitan .
