History
The compound has its history from the 138th Infantry Division of the 1st formation .
The division was formed in the Kalinin region in September 1939 as the 138th Mountain Division. It included the 544th, 650th, 768th rifle and 295th artillery regiments.
The 138th division participated in the Soviet-Finnish war . On March 21, 1940, she was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for performing combat missions in breaking through long-term defense. In 1940, it was redeployed to the Transcaucasian Military District and in April 1941 it was transformed into the 138th Mountain Division, consisting of the 344th, 554th, 650th, 768th Mountain Rifle, 536th Howitzer and 295th Artillery Regiments.
During the Great Patriotic War
From the first days of the Great Patriotic War until January 1942, the 138th Mountain Division took up defense on the border with Turkey . In December 1941, she was transferred to the 51st Army of the North Caucasus Front , where they took part in the Kerch-Feodosia landing operation .
Since mid-January 1942, the 51st Army of the Crimean Front was engaged in heavy battles with superior enemy forces.
March 30, 1942 was transformed into the 138th Infantry Division. Under the onslaught of the prevailing enemy forces, in May she was forced to retreat and cross from Crimea to the Taman Peninsula . During June - July, she fought on the North Caucasus Front as part of the 44th , then 51st Army.
Since August 1942, participated in the Battle of Stalingrad 1942-43, led the fighting to the east. river bank Don , then southwest of Stalingrad, and from October 1942 directly to Stalingrad as part of the 64th and then 62nd army . For courage and heroism shown by the personnel in the battles for Stalingrad, on February 6, 1943 it was transformed into the 70th Guards Rifle Division
In April 1943, it was transferred to the Oryol - Kursk direction and in the summer of 1943 participated in the Battle of Kursk.
On July 21, 1943, in a fierce battle in the Olkhovatka area, in cooperation with other formations of the 13th combined arms and 2nd tank armies of the Central Front, thwarted all attempts by the Nazi troops to break through to Kursk . For courage and heroism shown in these battles, she was awarded the Order of Lenin .
The division successfully operated as part of the Central Front during the counterattack near Kursk and the liberation of the Left Bank of Ukraine. In collaboration with the 23rd Tank Brigade of the 9th Panzer Corps on August 30, the division liberated the town of Glukhov , for which it was given the honorary name "Glukhovskaya" (Aug 31, 1944) [1] . For exemplary combat missions during the liberation of Bakhmach (September 9, 1943), the division was awarded the second Order of the Red Banner .
On the night of September 21, 1943, the 3rd rifle battalion of the 203rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the division under the command of the Captain V.M. Kosorukov’s guard was the first to go to the Dnieper and, under strong enemy artillery fire, began forcing on improvised crossing facilities. By morning, the battalion took the bridgehead on the right. river bank, reflecting the enemy’s repeated counterattacks. The decisive actions of the battalion ensured the successful crossing of the Dnieper by the rest of the division. For valor and courage, Kosorukov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union , and many commanders and soldiers of the battalion were awarded high government awards.
At the end of 1943 and in the first half of 1944, the 70th Guards Rifle Division, consisting of troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, participated in the liberation of Right-Bank Ukraine (from January 28 until the end of the war it operated in the 38th Army ).
In the Proskurovsky-Chernivtsi offensive operation, the division participated in battles for the city of Vinnitsa , for which March 23, 1944 was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 2nd degree . Subsequently, she fought on the right bank of the Dniester and participated in the Lviv-Sandomir offensive operation.
In September - October 1944, during the East Carpathian offensive operation, it waged heavy battles with the enemy, stubbornly defending mountain passages in the Carpathians. In January - February 1945, together with other units of the 38th Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front, attacked in the Krakow direction. For participation in the defeat of the enemy in February in the area of Bielsko on April 5, 1945 she was awarded the Order of Suvorov 2nd degree . Having entered the territory of Czechoslovakia , the division on May 1, 1945 successfully assisted the troops of the 1st Guards. army in the liberation of Bohumin , for which she was awarded the Order of Kutuzov 2nd degree (June 4, 1945). The final stage of the division’s combat path was the participation in the Prague operation of 1945. Thousands of division soldiers were awarded government awards, and 41 of them were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Post-war period
After the war, the division was redeployed to the Carpathian military district with a deployment in the Ivano-Frankivsk region of the Ukrainian SSR.
In 1956, as part of the troops of the 38th Army, PrikVO participated in Operation Whirlwind in Hungary .
In 1957, it was reorganized into the 70th Guards Motorized Rifle Division.
The full name of the compound: the 70th Guards Motorized Rifle Glukhovskaya twice the Red Banner, the orders of Suvorov, Kutuzov and Bogdan Khmelnitsky Division.
In January 1991, the division was reorganized into the 857th Base of Storage of Military Equipment [3] .
By the end of 1991, the division became part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine .
In 1993, the base was disbanded.
