Together with the other participants of the fifth set, JAXA sent for a two-year general space training together with astronauts from NASA NASA space center. Johnson The training included scientific and technical training, intensive study of the systems of the International Space Station, extravehicular activity, robotics; physiological training, flight training on T-38 aircraft, survival training on water and in desert terrain.

July 25, 2011 after the completion of general space training, was qualified as an ISS astronaut.

Further training took place in the USA and Canada, including for work with Kibo (JAXA press release from April 2013), Canadarm 2 (MSS) (September 2013) [4] .

In July 2015, he participated in the NEEMO-20 two-week underwater experiment, a NASA mission to work out in the extreme environment , held in the US underwater laboratory at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. [five]

In August 2015, JAXA announced the appointment of a long-term 6-month expedition ISS-54 / 55 as a member of the crew, scheduled to start in November 2017 using the Soyuz spacecraft; with the beginning of the preparation for the flight from January 2016. [6] [7]

In January 2016, a presentation by NASA astronaut Scott Tingle and astronaut JAXA Norishige Kanai took place at the Russian Cosmonaut Training Center. [8] Later, in January-February, Norisige Kanai underwent autonomous comprehensive training to work out actions after landing in a wooded and swampy area in winter, including in the crew of the ISS-54/55 Sergey Ryazansky , Norishige Canai, Randolph Breznik . [9] [10] [11] [12]

In June-July 2016, a group of 12 cosmonauts, astronauts Sergey Ryazansky, Randolph Breznik and Norishige Kanai, members of the crew of the ISS-54/55, underwent a “water survival” course on actions after landing on the water surface. [13] [14] [15]

On October 28, 2016, the Interdepartmental Commission of ROSKOSMOS State Corporation approved the composition of the main and backup crews of long expeditions (MKS-51/52, 52/53, 53/54, 54/55) to the International Space Station in 2017. Including the ISS-52 / 53 backup crew were approved: Alexander Alexandrovich Misurkin , Vande Hi-Mark , Kanai Norishige; ISS-54 / 55 main crew: Alexander Aleksandrovich Skvortsov , Scott Tingle , Norishige Kanai. [sixteen]

July 16, 2017 arrived at Baikonur as a member of the backup crew of the Soyuz MS-05 and ISS-52/53 TPK: Alexander Misurkin, Mark Vande Hai and Norishige Kanai. [17]

In August 2017, in preparation for the flight, the main crew of the 54 / 55th long expedition to the ISS ( Anton Shkaplerov , Scott Tingle and Norishige Kanai) performed a training session on simulators of the Russian segment of the ISS and the Soyuz transport manned vehicle (TLC) development of actions of the crew in case of emergency situations. [18]

On December 4, 2017, he arrived at Baikonur as a member of the main crew of Soyuz MS-07 TPK and the ISS-54/55 long expedition: Anton Shkaplerov, Scott Tingle and Norishig Kanai. [nineteen]

In December 2017, in a JAXA announcement about the date and time of the launch of the Soyuz MS-07 spacecraft, it was reported that astronaut Kanai would return to Earth in April 2018 on the Soyuz MS-07 spacecraft. [20]

During the pre-launch press conference on December 16, one day before the start, it was reported that the mission of the ISS-54/55 crew was decided to be extended - the landing date was moved from April 18 to June 3, 2018. [21]

On December 19, 2017, the Soyuz MS-07 transport spacecraft successfully docked with the ISS [24] [25] . The ship delivered to the International Space Station the Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov , the American astronaut Scott Tingle and the Japanese astronaut Norishige Kanai. They also reported that the crew is expected to return to Earth on June 3, 2018. [26]
