History

Italian producer Mario Dradi decided to hold the first concert in 1990 in Rome. The goal of the concert was to raise funds for the Jose Carreras José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation . In addition, for Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, this was an opportunity to welcome the return of his friend to the world of opera, since shortly before that Jose Carreras had successfully completed a course of treatment for leukemia.

Subsequently, three tenors performed together at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on the eve of the 1994 World Cup finals , on the Field of Marsh , at the foot of the Eiffel Tower , during the 1998 World Cup and in 2002 at the Yokohama World Cup. .

After the tremendous success of 1990–1994, the tenors set off on a world tour in 1996, performing at stadiums or large arenas. In 1996 they performed at the National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo , at Wembley Stadium in London , at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna , at the Giants Stadium in New York , at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg , at the Olympic Stadium in Munich , at the Rheinstadion Stadium in Dusseldorf and the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver on the eve of the new year. In 1997, the concerts continued at Cricket Ground in Melbourne , at the Rogers Center Stadium in Toronto , at San Life Stadium in Miami and at Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona . The final concert was to be held in Houston , but was canceled due to very low ticket sales.

In addition to the main tour of 1996–1997, two additional concerts were given to the benefit performance : one in the summer of 1997 in Modena , the hometown of Pavarotti, and one in the winter in Madrid , the hometown of Domingo. The money received from the sale of tickets was used to restore the La Fenice Theater in Venice and the Grand Theater Liceo in Barcelona.

Legal issue

The antitrust scandal is associated with the success of the three tenors - the US Federal Trade Commission has caught Warner Bros. and Vivendi SA in collusion. The purpose of the collusion was to protect the sales of the jointly released album of the Parisian Tenors Concert, for which the companies refused to advertise and distribute the album of the Roman concert (released by PolyGram, later bought by Vivendi SA).
