Biography

Born October 25, 1917 in the village of Glebovo, Kashinsky district of the Tver province (now the Kashinsky district of the Tver region ) in a peasant family. He graduated from 7 classes of a secondary school in the village of Makovnitsy and the school of FZU . He worked as a locksmith on the construction of the Moscow Metro [1] [2] .

In 1938, he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army with the Kashin District Military Commissariat. He graduated from advanced training courses for command staff, became a candidate member of the CPSU (b) [2] . In 1939, the Soviet-Finnish War began, Samoilov was sent to the front of the North-Western Front [2] .

In February 1940, the infantry of the 123rd Infantry Division launched a difficult offensive in the Summa-Khotinen area . To support the infantry, the command sent the 20th Tank Brigade of the 7th Army . On February 11, 1940, on one of the sections of the arrow, reaching a wire fence, they could not advance further and lay down, as the enemy fired on advancing from guns and machine guns, among the Soviet forces there were already killed and wounded [1] .

The senior radio telegraph operator of the 95th tank battalion of the 20th tank brigade, the junior commander Samoilov, was part of the crew of one of the tanks. Having approached the line where the Soviet infantrymen were lying, he leaned out of the hatch and shouted “Follow me!” , After which the tank moved straight to the Finnish position. Soon the enemy firing points were suppressed, passages were formed in the Finnish wire fences, which ensured the successful offensive of infantry units [1] [2] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 11, 1940, for the exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against the Finnish White Guard and courage and heroism shown to this, the younger commander Samoilov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union [2] .

On the fronts of World War II from June 1941 [2] . Since December 4, 1942 - on the Don Front [3] .

The heavy tank company commander, senior lieutenant of the 10th Guards Tank Regiment of the breakthrough Samoilov distinguished himself during the Battle of Stalingrad , destroying 9 guns, 7 machine gun nests with crews, 12 dugouts with enemy infantry, and knocked out 3 German tanks and one armored car. In the battle on January 11, 1943, the Samoilov tank was set on fire by the enemy, but the crew extinguished the flame twice and continued the attack. Continuing to fight, the car was hit for the third time. Leaving the burning tank, Samoilov died [2] . He was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree [3] .

He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Vertyachy Gorodishchensky district of the Volgograd region [2] [4] .
