Biography
Born on March 28, 1915 in the village of Ploskovo, now the Manturovsky District of the Kostroma Region, in a peasant family. Russian. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1941. Primary education. He worked on the farm.
In 1937 he was drafted into the Red Army . Became a career military. He graduated in 1941 courses "Shot".
On the front in the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. He fought on the Western, North-Western fronts.
In March 1942, he was wounded. After the hospital he fought as a part of the 42nd rifle regiment of the 180th rifle division commander of the rifle company. In January 1943, in offensive battles on the Voronezh front during the Voronezh-Kastornoy operation, served as battalion commander. For exemplary performance of command assignments and competent command and control of combat operations of the battalion, Senior Lieutenant Cheremokhin was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree. Later he took command of the battalion.
In the battles for Rossosh and Kharkov, the Cheremokhina battalion destroyed more than one hundred Nazis. On the Kursk Bulge, he withstood defensive battles, and then one of the first to launch an offensive. In the September offensive battles, the Cheremokhina battalion was thrown onto the most difficult, important sectors. The combat commander has always been distinguished by his skillful maneuver and the ability to proactively fight the enemy, due to which the battalion had insignificant losses in the offensive. Combat Cheremokhin especially distinguished itself when crossing the Dnieper River and in battles on the Lyutezhsky bridgehead.
On the night of September 27, 1943, a battalion under the command of Captain Cheremokhin forced the Dnieper near the village of New Petrovtsy. Under a storm of fire, the enemy of the company reached the right bank of the river on pre-prepared floating craft and attacked the enemy in the forward trenches. Following the retreating Nazis, the assault groups rushed forward. After a quick hand-to-hand combat, the Cheremokhina battalion occupied the height prevailing over the terrain, cutting the road Lyutezh-Kiev and putting at risk all nearby enemy communications on the right bank of the Dnieper. During the four days of fighting, the battalion fighters repulsed several enemy counterattacks. The Nazis left more than five hundred corpses in front of the battalion captain Cheremokhin’s positions, but were unable to knock out our soldiers from the captured height.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 29, 1943, for courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and in the battles for expanding the bridgehead, captain Ivan Alekseevich Cheremokhin was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
The deputy commander of the regiment, Major Cheremokhin, was killed in battle on 25 August 1944. He was buried on the western outskirts of the city of Barlad.
He was awarded the Order of Lenin , World War 2 nd degree, medals. His name is a street in the city of Manturovo.
